Chande, Mkapa, Kibaki and Awori Freemason speeches made public Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 April 2007

Some colleagues of the former Eastern Africa Freemasons District Grand Master, Sir Andy Jayantilal Chande, have published his writings and speeches on Freemasonry and its various orders.

The new title is called ?Whither Directing Your Course?.

Chande, who retired recently from the leadership of Freemasonry, headed the organisation for the regional countries comprising Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and the Seychelles.

The book, a copy of which was availed to The Guardian, contains, besides, Chande?s speeches, discourse by Tanzania`s former President Benjamin William Mkapa and Kenya`s President Mwai Kibaki.

It also contains a speech by Kenya`s current Vice President Moody Awori.

It is understood that the publication of the book is not merely to provide information on the organisation to the public, but also to help them know how Freemasonry operates, says a statement issued on Monday.

It adds that the present world leader of English Freemasonry is His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth.

In his valedictory address he gave to fellow members, Chande makes reference to the contributions, which Freemasons have made towards the welfare of the community in the region.

He says Freemasons were the first to come to the rescue of the victims of American Embassy bombings in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi in 1998.
